It’s Poppin’

A young kid who is afraid of moving to a new city finds themself talking to a blue balloon that is afraid of being let go at a rest stop. Together they find the courage to embrace the unknown ahead of them.

It’s Poppin’ was written by Georgia playwright Steven San Luis and is directed by Rebecca Rose Schilsky.

Steven San Luis

Steven San Luis [he/him/his] (Playwright) is a poet and playwright living in southern Georgia. Steven was a guest writer and performer of poetry and monologues for Queer Lenses, an event by the LGBTQIA organization, Queer Asterisk, and has performed as a company member at Dancefx Charleston. In 2019, his short plays were produced at the Hand to Mouth Players Playwright/Director's Workshop, the 2019 TANYS Festival, the North Park Playwright Festival and Boxfest Detroit. Steven's 10-minute comedy, Mime Stop was recently published in the 2020 Stage It! book, and his one act The Border Troll was the 2020 winner of the Avalonia 7 Best Comedic One Act Award. Steven's full length play Angler Light was a 2020 Trustus Theatre finalist, and has been chosen for development as a part of Local Theater Company's 2021 Local Lab.

Rebecca Rose Schilsky

Rebecca Rose Schilsky [she, her] (Director) is excited to be making her Chicago debut with Ghostlight! Directing credits include: Girl on the Platform & X-Stream (First Kiss Theatre) and Snow White (Skidmore College). Some of her other theatrical credits include The Gulf, Cabaret, Maybe Tomorrow, Maybe Next Year (as SM–– world premier) and The Pill. Rebecca has also worked with Boomerang Theatre Company, New Ohio Theater and is currently a creative producer and artistic resident with First Kiss Theatre. She holds a Bachelor of Science in theatre from Skidmore College. Rebecca is excited to be working with Ghostlight, furthering her goal of generating productions that strive to entertain audiences of ages 1-101!

Levi Denton- Hughes

Levi Denton- Hughes [they/them] (Soledad) graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre in 2018 and have since moved to Chicago where they live with their wonderful partner and two kitties. Previous credits include Dionysus in The Frogs, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Mark Antony in Julius Caesar, Ted in Peter and the Starcatcher and Sally Bowles in Cabaret. They are extremely excited to be involved in this project and they are forever thankful for the support they receive from their partner and loved ones.

Emmett Wickersham

Emmett Wickersham [he/him] (Bilbo) graduated SUNY Fredonia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre in 2020 and has since relocated to Chicago this past year. Previous credit's include Oberon/Theseus in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Proteus in Two Gentlemen of Verona, Horatio in Hamlet, Nakhman/Others in Indecent and Selsdon in Noises Off. Emmett is beyond excited to be part of this work and is eternally grateful to his partner and other members of his support system for their never ending support and love!
