It’s Poppin’

A young kid who is afraid of moving to a new city finds herself at a rest stop talking to a blue balloon that is afraid of being let go. Together they find the courage to embrace the unknown and face what’s to come.

It’s Poppin’ was written by Steven San Luis and is directed by Maureen Azzun.


Biographies

Steven San Luis

Steven San Luis [he/him/his] (Playwright) is a queer playwright from southern Georgia. His short comedy, Mime Stop, was published in the 2020 Stage It! book, and his one act, The Border Troll, was the 2020 winner of the Avalonia 7 Best Comedic One Act Award. In 2021, both of Steven's full length plays, Angler Light and Clown Lung, were selected for inclusion in the Local Lab Festival at Local Theater Company, where he is now an Associate Artist. He is currently enrolled in the dramatic writing MFA program at New York University.

Maureen Azzun

Maureen Azzun [she/her] (Director) is excited to make her Ghostlight debut! Directing credits include: Elephant (Theatre L’Acadie); Reevaluating Representation: A Capstone Presentation (University of Oklahoma). Acting credits include: 2022 Black Playwrights Festival (Black Ensemble Theater); This Is Only A Test (Broken Nose Theatre); Queen C (Trap Door Theatre); The Gap, Men on Boats, Seven (University of Oklahoma). Film (as actor) credits include Rosemary; Barf; That Night. Maureen holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Oklahoma. She has also trained with Black Box Acting, the Second City and IDC Professionals.

Nick Conrad

Nick Conrad (Bilbo The Blue Balloon) is elated to return for another Make/Believe Festival with Ghostlight Ensemble. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Nick moved to Chicago to study improv at The IO Theater, The Annoyance and The Second City. Nick has also performed, stand-up and sketch comedy at various Chicago locations. In addition to comedy, Nick has been in numerous live readings with Ghostlight Ensemble including: Don’t Move or the Bunny Gets it, Don’t Call Me Junior, You Me and Five Bucks and Must Eat TV. Nick would like to thank his family for their never ending support and inspiration. Believe in yourself and anything is possible.

SOPHIE HERNANDO KOFMAN

Sophie Hernando Kofman [she/her/hers] (Soledad) is a storyteller, world-crafter and creative thinker who loves nothing more than to help create stories that move us and pull us from our daily routines. Previous credits include roles in SpongeBob the Musical (Surging Films & Theatrics), Grimm (world premiere at Theatre Above the Law), As We Like It; a devised Shakespeare Project (Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford, Connecticut), One State 24 Hour Theatre Festival (Silent Theatre in conjunction with Arts Alliance Illinois), Storefront Theater Musical (Corn Productions) and El Grande de Coca Cola (Waterfront Summer Stages). Additionally, she worked as a haunted corn-field actress at Stocker Farms in Snohomish, Washington, and is a current Associate Artist with LOCAL Theater Company in Boulder, Colorado. Sophie holds a Bachelor of Arts in theater from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, and is so excited to be making her debut with Ghostlight Ensemble Theatre Co. She also tells phenomenal jokes.
